The self-hosted alternative to Preservica is the AlgoVoi [Verifiable Compliance Suite](/verifiable-compliance-suite): a digital preservation and compliance-evidence estate you run inside your own perimeter, air-gap capable, post-quantum signed, and offline-verifiable by any third party without contacting a vendor, on one perpetual licence rather than a cloud subscription. *Last updated: 3 August 2026.* Preservica is one of the most widely deployed digital preservation platforms, and for many archives it is a sound choice. This page is for teams whose evaluation keeps circling one question: what happens to the archive, and to its proofs, if it has to live entirely inside your own perimeter and outlast every vendor decision? ## What Preservica is [Preservica](https://preservica.com/) sells digital preservation and archiving software built around Active Digital Preservation, which automatically maintains files in readable, future-friendly formats over decades. It is delivered as cloud SaaS across several editions (including a free Starter tier and a private cloud option), integrates closely with Microsoft 365, and serves government, financial services, academic, corporate, and cultural heritage archives. It emphasises assured authenticity through checksums and context capture, with automated retention and legal hold. If your collection's core risk is format obsolescence, Preservica addresses it directly and the suite does not try to. If your core risk is evidential (regulators, litigation, decades-long confidentiality, or infrastructure that cannot touch a vendor cloud at all), the suite is built for exactly that and a cloud platform structurally cannot offer vendor-independent verification. ## The air gap test A useful evaluation shortcut: can the system run, ingest, and prove its records on a network with no internet access, and can an external auditor verify those proofs without contacting the vendor? The suite passes both by design. It installs offline from one signed bundle, the licence key works without a phone-home, and the verifier recomputes every chain from the records alone.
